Highways, PROW and Refuse

Puddington Parish Council is home to one of the busiest junctions in the Borough of CWAC where the A540 and A550 meet at the Two Mills. The parish is also bordered down one side by the A5117 dual carriageway a major gateway to North Wales. The A540 is the main route to and from Chester to Neston and the Wirral.
In addition, major routes into our villages via Puddington Lane, Shotwick Lane and Woodbank Lane suffer from speeding motorists and in some case deteriorating road condition, CWAC and responsible for the maintenance of the A540, Woodbank Lane, Capenhurst Lane, Puddington Lane and Badgers Rake Lane.
Highways England is responsible for the A550 Welsh Road.
The A5517 and A550 lead to the Boroughs motorway the M56 and to the M53.

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY
SEPTIC TANKS, DISCHARGES AND NEW LEGISLATION
WELSH WATER: ASSESSMENT OF DUTY TO PROVIDE PUBLIC SEWERAGE INFRASTRUCTURE.
With effect from 1 January 2020 the legal requirements relating to the management and control of Septic tanks is changing.
A review by the Environment Agency confirmed that:

• Some of the sewerage systems in Puddington do not meet the minimum requirements and are likely to cause environmental or amenity problems
• Some do not comply with the Environment Agency’s “General Binding Rules for Small sewerage Discharges”.
• A cost benefit analysis to determine whether public sewers must be provided by Welsh Water (a public option), was found to be NOT cost effective. As such, residents are recommended to install either individual or shared treatment plants.
• RESIDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR TREATMENT SYSTEMS AND MUST familiarise themselves with the rules relating to discharges to ensure that private systems are compliant, and you know exactly where it discharges to.
• FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE LEGISLATION WILL RESULT IN SANCTION IN THE FORM OF FINES
